So what does current Formula One driver Yuki Tsunoda and current US President Donald Trump have in common?
Both are currently bombarding my Facebook feed. And were I given the choice, only one of them would be welcome to.
Drive to survive, thrive and take any opportunity you can
If you’re not much of a Formula One fan then allow me to summarise: Red Bull Racing has two teams in the hunt, their main team (which consists of the usual dominating Max Verstappen and whoever they feel can keep up with him which was once my favourite driver Sergio Perez but is now New Zealander Liam Lawson. Well was, I’ll get to that in a sec) and Racing Bulls, their junior development team.
Japanese sensation Yuki Tsunoda was part of Racing Bulls earlier this season but after a couple of nightmare runs for poor Lawson, Red Bull make some big decisions and now the pair have now swapped. Yuki in the main team, Liam in the reserves. Which of course unleashed merry hell on my Facebook feed as the algorithm decided my interest in this situation just wasn’t up to scratch and proceeded to drown it in Yuki Tsunoda articles and Liam Lawson memes.

Yes every F1 pundit page under the sun has a take on this situation (as does just about every F1 fan it seems looking at the comments) and Facebook has served every single one to me without pausing to draw a breath even though I’ve never commented on any of the pages nor proactively searched for the news on Lawson, Tsunoda or what controversy is surrounding Christian Horner this week.

Just a sample of what I’ve been fed over the last few days..
For what it’s worth, here’s my take: The early days of the 2025 season have been very interesting because so far it’s taken a step away from the usual. Max Verstappen isn’t dominating like he did. McLaren suddenly find themselves with a red hot car and a pair of young, hungry and talented drivers and the team is ahead of Red Bull. Mercedes doesn’t have Lewis Hamilton anymore and interestingly in the first two races we’ve seen names in the top ten that don’t usually land there. At all. This is pleasing for me because it’s mixing everything up.
(Case in point for Team Williams. Last year they scored 17 points across the entire season. In 2025, they’ve got 17 points in the first two races. God do I want them to climb!)
Were Max continuing to dominate, I feel they would have overlooked young Lawson’s bad couple of runs and stuck with him for at least a handful of races to see how he fared. But now that McLaren’s a serious threat, I believe they’re looking at someone who can support Max like Perez used to do…which you can’t do from the back when Max is usually in first or not far from it. Yuki Tsunoda, who has managed to score points this year, has obviously had a much better run even in the secondary team and Red Bull management believe he’d be better served up front.
Yes I feel they jumped the gun early. Yes I feel they should have given Liam Lawson a better chance. On the flip side of the coin, I’d like to see Yuki Tsunoda dominate in his new position and thrive because that would be awesome to see the young gun really stretch his legs. But the decision is made and now we watch the chips fall where they may. Boy am I glad I’m not in F1 team management.
I’m also glad that I’m not the US President I’ve certainly heard more than enough about him this week.
Can I hail to radio silence instead?
Thanks to Facebook, all this week I’ve been bombarded with posts (more articles) along the following:
-How he believes he’s 100% going to take over Greenland (for some possible military threat?)
-How Canada is going to become the next US state (did anyone ask if Canada wants this? I think the general consensus is a F-no.)
-Tariff city.
-His chief of security is an idiot (well given the blunders that does seem fair)

-His good mate Elon is getting annoying (I can see that) but anyway, please buy a Tesla. Maybe not at a dealership with a protest outside it and possibly not a cyber-truck because the panel tape will fail as soon as you leave your driveway according to all the posts I’m witnessing.
-Liberation day
-How expensive some things here are going to become thanks to his decisions (well gee thanks, I wasn’t haven’t enough fun living from paycheck to paycheck already! Appreciate it!)
-Deporting criminals and people who aren’t criminals but apparently the courts can’t get those innocent people back or something?
-The bromance ending between him and Elon (oh boo hoo)
-Mass firings only to find they fired some very essential to the country people (again) so please come back if you can?

-JD Vance going to Greenland and nobody there wanting to hang out with him. And then there was this:

I don’t think you need to read between the lines here to gauge my thoughts on the man, it’s pretty much on par with the rest of the world looking on feeling sorry for Americans trapped in this madness. What I wish was if his noise and carry on didn’t carry over to my Facebook feed because I already see enough, hear enough and absorb enough in passing on a day to day basis. He’s not my president and through his actions it looks like I’m going to suffer from him. A constant reminder then when I try to see what my friends are up to is not what any doctor ordered (unless they’re a maga supporter I guess.)
So the easy solution? Make Yuki Tsunoda president. Put Yuki Tsunoda in a position of power, put Liam Lawson back in the main car and try to shoehorn Donald in the Racing Bull.
If I can’t avoid the news of the oranged hair one through Facebook, at least for a red hot minute/half a lap things could be entertaining.
