If anyone was to ask me where I rate my dancing ability, I’d probably suggest somewhere between picking a winning team in the NFL and successfully running a profitable franchise.
For the record, I’ve never really done either of those things.
Which makes today’s announcement even more entertaining: I can reveal that I am part of this year’s charity dance competition Stars of the Border 2025 and yes, I will be dancing. Publicly.
What could possibly go wrong here?
Stars of the Border – Not just dancing though, plenty of fundraising too
Yes I wouldn’t agree and sign up to a local dance competition for the sake of trying to prove a point when I’m rubbish at dancing, that would be akin to putting my Mazda 6 in a formula one race and then swearing as I found myself overlapped within the first two minutes.
No I’m dancing to help raise awareness and funding for the Cancer Council of Australia.
Because Cancer doesn’t discriminate, we all know someone who has gone through it and possibly more than a handful of those close to you that have been lost to it. Personally I know two inspirational dads who have had it, fought it, wrestled it and made it through as absolute champions. Therefore the more money we can tip towards research to fight against it as well as to provide assistance and support for anyone going through it, the better.
Which means if me dancing to the best of my ability for two and half minutes publicly later this year helps raise some much needed coin and awareness for such a good cause? Then clear the decks baby, I’m about to bust a move (and hopefully not an injury!)
Oh did I mention it’s Hip Hop dancing? I love my Hip Hop but dancing to it? That’s going to be a challenge. (I was really worried I was going to get passe doble or something..)

The target is a minimum $5000 of fundraising for the challenge and if you’d like to kick in a couple of bucks, I’ll be forever grateful for your support. I will also be running a game show night soon as my major fundraiser as well as lots of mini adventures so more details coming up soon!
Also thankfully it’s not just me stepping out on stage at the gala night of Stars of the Border 2025 and winging things with moves badly copied from YouTube and Tik Tok. Luckily I’ve been partnered up with someone who knows what they’re doing!
Over to you Abbey!

Local nurse by day and hip hop dance teacher when not saving lives, this is not Abbey’s first Stars of the Border Rodeo. Last year she helped local legend Kade get to where I’m headed to this year – ready to pop, lock, gangsta slide and whatever else is needed to dominate the gala night dance floor.
In fact the pairing did so well last year, they took out the Stars of the Border people’s choice awards – so I’ve got some big Reebok Pumps to fill in 2025!

The good news is, I’ve got ten weeks of lessons first. And a couple of rehearsals. So it certainly won’t be ‘Here’s a couple of lessons on the basics, you work out the rest on the night.’ Chatting with Abbey at the official launch last night, she’s also got a brilliant idea on how we’re going to perform this. And while I can’t go into too many details, I can tell you that both props and uniforms will be a part of it.
A secret project…it’s been a while!
Stars of the Border, we’re all in this together
You can’t have a fundraising competition for something like Stars of the Border without some amazing people on board so check out this bunch of good looking roosters also stepping up to strap on the dancing shoes and getting down to business for some serious fundraising.

12 local celebs from all walks of life and business, all slightly terrified at the thought of this in a good way (I have admitted as such) but all super keen to get involved. And even though I’ve only know them for a couple of hours over an information night and the official launch, this bunch that makes up the 2025 Stars of the Border look to be a hoot.
Not only are we all involved in a group dance to get the Stars of the Border Gala night, I even have a competitive Hip Hop rival already in Geoff (2nd from left) which is hilarious. (There’s three hip hop performances amongst the group as well as commercial, latin, jazz and so much more.)
Phew!
What have I got myself into? Hopefully oodles of fun, a completely new experience and undoubtedly plenty of new mates around town at the end of it. Bring it on then and see you on the dance floor!
IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO DONATE TO MY FUNDRAISING, THE LINK TO DO JUST THAT IS RIGHT HERE. Thanks for supporting my efforts for Stars of the Border 2025!
Edit: I even made a video with some examples of my current dance levels:
you are truly amazing. so glad I pushed you out of your comfort zone to do this. you and Abbey will be amazing and smash it! ✨️ Good luck my love, the kids and I are right behind you 110%.
