This week I’m celebrating my YouTube channel’s first year of existence. Actually the official date was last month but I’m throwing streamers this week because I’ve been so busy with dancing and fundraising, that I missed it.
And truth be told, it was a busy year on the streaming platform as I covered everything from Supercoach to schnitzels, Heroquest to little metal figures I painted in the 90s, cheap albums of the 90’s and everything in between. In a word, it’s been fun and I’ve enjoyed my first year of video content creation immensely.
But after the smoke cleared from all the party poppers and security ushered the real drunk guests out of the building, I started to wonder why Google has different rules for my two outlets when it comes to making money. Because when you look at how they performed, my articles here raised enough for a pretty awful cup of coffee over 365 days. It’s not much but hey, it’s something.
Meanwhile while my content on YouTube was consumed close to 478 hours worth (almost 20 days non stop) it didn’t generate a single cent. And it won’t until 1000 people follow the channel and consume almost 10x more than they have.
It’s almost as if YouTube got drunk at the work Xmas party and said something untoward about the payment division people and they’ve never let it go..
